Semtech-owned IoT firm Sierra Wireless has partnered with telecoms software outfit Amdocs on a new network planning and management solution to reduce the complexity of private LTE and 5G networks. The new product goes with Sierra’s portfolio of IoT routers and modules, to work in global spectrum bands. The pair are bundling a private LTE/5G core from HPE-owned Athonet into the service offer, as well.
A press note said Sierra is also contributing its software and service solutions, with a link to a page about its AirLink line of routers and AirLink Complete device management solutions. It mentions “global band support and the ability to create future-proofed, tailored private networking solutions that fit their needs”. Sierra will provide hardware for the US-based Anterix 900MHz and ‘CBRS’ 3.55-3.7GHz bands, plus sundry 5G SA ‘vertical’ bands in global markets.
The Athonet core network is pitched specifically for “mission-critical” private network applications, it suggested. Amdocs is providing network planning and management software. The pair reference key industries as utilities, governments, transportation, smart cities, robotics and smart warehousing. The whole package is geared to drive sales, via an initial design consultancy package, to Sierra/Amdocs-curated private LTE/5G hardware and services.
Sierra and Amdocs said they will jointly “drive channel sales initiatives, reduce overall complexity, and provide a scalable network-as-a-service for enterprise customers”. They quoted analyst firm Counterpoint Research, that the global LTE/5G private networks infrastructure market will increase from approximately $2.5 billion in revenue at the end of 2022 to reach $21.8 billion at the end of 2030, representing a CAGR of 30.7 percent over the forecast period.
Grant Kyle, head of strategic partnerships, Sierra Wireless, said: “Interest in private networking is exploding as more organizations realize the opportunity and benefits of having increased coverage, security and flexibility for their mission and business critical applications. Partnering with Amdocs, our goal is to simplify implementation by bringing a tested and complete end-to-end solution to market.”
Anthony Goonetilleke, group president of technology and head of strategy at Amdocs, said: “We are pleased to bring our portfolio of network capabilities… to this collaboration…. Across the RAN, core, security and applications, we leverage our deep network expertise to help accelerate time-to-market for innovative connected experiences that meet the scalability, performance and security requirements of enterprises around the world.”
Simon O’Donnell, president at Athonet in the US, said: “We have seen the demand for private networks increase tremendously over the past couple of years as enterprises see the business benefits of cellular adoption. By partnering with Sierra Wireless, we’re helping businesses capitalize on these benefits with proven, secure solutions.”
