New enterprise edition of Chat GPT promises total AI data security, control

We probably should write this, just because its impact on the tech-fuelled enterprise market will be considerable – whether by itself, or as a harbinger for AI adoption in the workplace with all the knock-on effects for smart industry. US artificial intelligence (AI) developer OpenAI has launched an enterprise version of its Chat GPT large-language model (LLM) chatbot with higher-grade security and privacy and uncapped fourth-gen GPT-4 access.

These more advanced capabilities, geared around privacy and control of enterprise data, plus longer context windows and advanced data analysis, are expected to appeal to businesses interested in adopting AI, but so far reluctant to pile in on a consumed-based AI engine. Even so, OpenAI suggested more than 80 percent of Fortune 500 companies have registered accounts (on enterprise email domains) with the Chat GPT since its launch in 2022.

The new enterprise version is being trialled by Block, Canva, Carlyle, The Estée Lauder Companies, PwC, and Zapier. These companies are “using ChatGPT to craft clearer communications, accelerate coding tasks, rapidly explore answers to complex business questions, [and] assist with creative work,” said OpenAI in a blog post. The company is onboarding “as many enterprises as [it] can over the next few weeks”, it said.

The big draw for enterprises is with higher data security and privacy. OpenAI said: “We do not train on your business data or conversations, and our models don’t learn from your usage. ChatGPT Enterprise is also SOC 2 compliant and all conversations are encrypted in transit and at rest. Our new admin console lets you manage team members easily and offers domain verification, SSO, and usage insights, allowing for large-scale deployment into enterprise.”

Chat GPT Enterprise is more powerful (“up to two times faster”) than the current paid version, with unlimited access to GPT4, a four-times longer context window, shareable prompt templates for collaboration and common workflows, plus no usage caps. OpenAI is also issuing free API credits to help enterprises develop custom tools and solutions. Further customisation and power tools are in the works, it said.

It stated: “We include 32k context in Enterprise, allowing users to process four times longer inputs or files. ChatGPT Enterprise also provides unlimited access to advanced data analysis… This enables both technical and non-technical teams to analyse information in seconds, whether for financial researchers crunching market data, marketers analysing survey results, or data scientists debugging an ETL script.”
