Unabiz eyes Euro supply chain with Sigfox tracker for premium goods, auto parts

Unabiz is to distribute a new Sigfox tracking solution for the postal industry in Europe. The solution has been developed by KYOCERA Communication Systems Company (KCCS), the Sigfox operator in Japan, which has traditionally specialised in IoT trackers for returnable transport packaging assets. The new tracker from KCCS, branded SeeGALE, detects the opening and closing of parcels during transportation, to ensure their integrity and security.

The SeeGALE solution will be available in two form factors: as a reusable card-type device (SeeGALE-C/Card) that detects the location and opening of products during transportation; and as a film-version (SeeGALE-F/Film) for disposable single-use packaging boxes without additional waste generation. The SeeGALE-C is available in the Sigfox RCZ1 radio configuration; the SeeGALE-F is still in development.

The reusable card-version can be integrated into different packaging types, including plastic containers. The device lasts for approximately two years, based on one message per day, said Unabiz – and four years if one message is sent only every month. The price of the SeeGALE product has not been revealed, but Unabiz suggested the solution will be targeted at premium and luxury products, as well as automotive parts – where damage and “sabotage” is costly.

Singapore-based Unabiz cited its usage for inventory management in manufacturing (“managing costly maintenance parts and components produced in small quantities, and broad assortment of long-tail products”) and transportation management of high-value goods (“with a security seal”; such as pharmaceuticals, alcoholic beverages, and luxury items). It is showing the solution with KCCS at Parcel+Post Expo 2023, this week in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands.

Loic Barancourt, chief commercial officer at Unabiz, said: “KCCS [has] achieved success in Japan with this simple, low-cost, and energy-efficient innovation, a perfect fit for parcel monitoring. SeeGALE meets the burgeoning needs of the logistics industry by providing real-time insights, increasing transparency and visibility of high-value goods, and enabling next-level inventory management and demand forecasting.”

Naoki Kawai, division manager for wireless solutions at KCCS, said: “We are committed to pushing… innovation and technology. SeeGALE represents a culmination of our efforts to create smarter and more secure solutions for the global market. We are excited to partner with Unabiz to introduce SeeGALE to Europe, revolutionising product shipment monitoring and creating new possibilities in various industries including the supply chain sector in Europe.”
