The telco cloud solution is generally available in North America and has reportedly been deployed by more than 100 CSPs
Amazon Web Services (AWS) and cloud communications platform Alianza, Inc. announced at AWS re:invent a multi-year Strategic Collaboration Agreement (SCA) to address how communication service providers (CSPs) deliver and monetize voice and cloud communications services. The collaboration combines cloud infrastructure and cloud-native software offerings from both companies to support CSPs as they look to next generation voice and communications products.
“AWS and Alianza are both driven to innovate and modernize telecom infrastructure,” said Sameer Vuyyuru, director and head of worldwide telecommunications business development, AWS. “The combination of Alianza’s full-stack cloud communications platform with our customer-centric go-to-market motion and proven cloud infrastructure delivers a turnkey solution to solve key business challenges for service providers, making it the easy choice for CSP network transformation.”
According to AWS and Alianza, the joint solution will reduce the cost of ownership and simplify provider operations because the Alianza Cloud Communications Platform enables CSPs to replace their entire softswitch-based VoIP networks and TDM legacy hardware to launch new UCaaS and cloud communication products. For its part, AWS said it will help telcos modernize by migrating workloads to a cloud environment.
The pair also said the solution will improve the customer experience by transforming the telco business model, as well pave the way for new product innovation. “Alianza has simplified the entire communications infrastructure into a single, comprehensive software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution for CSPs to deliver the full suite of legacy voice and next-generation communications services,” stated the companies. “Ongoing product innovation will enable CSPs to gain unprecedented market agility and flexibility, as well as faster time-to-market and reduced risk with a platform that is future-ready.”
Further, product and engineering experts at AWS and Alianza’s research and development teams are collaborating to develop solutions for the telco and CSP markets.
In a previous conversation with RCR Wireless News, Vuyyuru explained that AWS doesn’t use the term “telco cloud” because that “isn’t really the point” of the cloud. “The point of the cloud is that it’s not industry specific, so that you can run a telco workload along with a manufacturing workload so that you can serve an end customer and generate value for them and revenue for yourself,” Vuyyuru said. “If we were to silo a telco cloud, we’d lose that advantage of flexibility and innovation.”
Instead, for AWS, the relationship between the telco industry and the cloud is really about helping service providers realize a return on capital when it comes to top line growth and reducing costs. AWS does, however, work with customers to co-create services that best leverage the cloud to support industry specific needs, as is evidenced by the partnership with Alianza.
