The cellular hardware and SIM security unit of French aerospace and defense firm Thales has picked virtual IoT operator (MVNO) Wireless Logic to provide global IoT airtime for its SGP.32 based eSIM solution. A default ‘bootstrap’ profile from UK based Wireless Logic will be preloaded onto Thales’ eSIM solutions during their production; upon activation, IoT devices using its eSIMs will connect via Wireless Logic’s roaming partners in order to download a SIM profile of choice, either confirming Wireless Logic as the default carrier or switching to local carriers.
Thales enables remote eSIM and device management via its Thales Adaptive Connect (TAC); it will link to Wireless Logic’s Connexa platform, its branded IoT airtime service. The firm claims 25,000 enterprise customers in various industries, including agriculture, healthcare, manufacturing, transport, energy, utilities and cities. It has 14 million IoT devices under management on its system in 165 countries; it has direct ties with around 50 mobile network operators. It is backed by mid-market private equity firm Montagu.
The SGP.32 technical implementation of the SGP.31 architecture specification for remote eSIM provisioning includes the eIM (eSIM IoT manager) software component to handle eSIM profiles in IoT devices, enabling functionalities like profile downloads, activation, and deactivation. The technology allows for single SKUs for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to produce IoT devices at scale, and allow for localised provisioning when they are in-market.
Guillaume Lafaix, vice president of connectivity solutions at Thales, said: “With Wireless Logic as connectivity partner, we not only gain scalability and performance but also the flexibility needed for complex, cross-border IoT deployments. Their proposal strategically aligns with our goals and competitive approach, but more importantly, their expertise and proven track record reinforce our commitment to technical excellence. Built on the latest GSMA SGP.32 standard, our joint solution is essential for anyone managing IoT connectivity across diverse regions.”
John Dillon, managing director of product and marketing at Wireless Logic, said: “By combining our expertise in IoT connectivity with Thales’ advanced IoT eSIM technology, we can help customers navigate the challenges of scaling their IoT solutions and deployments. This partnership streamlines operations, enhances network performance, and gives us confidence that together, we can help customers navigate the challenges of scaling their IoT deployments. We’re honoured and excited for the journey ahead.”
