CoreMedia integrates OMA’s DRM with Microsoft’s offering

HAMBURG, Germany-Digital rights management company CoreMedia AG unveiled technology allowing two of the world’s most common DRM platforms to interoperate.

The company announced an offering that supports both Microsoft Corp.’s DRM technology and the wireless DRM platform supported by the Open Mobile Alliance. CoreMedia also released a plug-in for the Windows Media Player enabling PC playback of OMA-protected music bought on wireless phones.

The new technology allows consumers to transfer directly music purchased on their handsets to computers without additional downloading.

“It’s all about convergence,” said Dr. Willms Buhse, CoreMedia’s director of products and marketing. “It is important for content providers and operators to offer their music services with cross-platform capabilities, allowing their customers the choice of where to listen to purchased music.”
