STOCKHOLM, Sweden-Vodafone Sweden said it plans to launch commercial push-to-talk service in September targeted at both corporate customers and consumers.
The carrier has been in joint evaluations of the service with Nokia for about a year, according to Vodafone Sweden, which bought Nokia’s Push to Talk over Cellular solution.
“Our goal is to make communication for our customers as simple as possible by offering the best mobile services in the market,” said Paul Moonga, marketing director at Vodafone Sweden.
Moonga noted the service appeals to traditional service and fleet markets, as well as to other target groups such as to the youth category, which expressed interest in using it to communicate with friends.
The company plans to offer the service for a fixed monthly price of about $12.85. Occasional users can opt to pay a per-day price of $1.30 for a day of access to the service.
The service initially will be offered on the Nokia 5140, Nokia 6230i, 6020 and 6021 handsets, with additional handsets to be offered this fall.
