SEOUL, Korea-Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. won its first W-CDMA infrastructure contract outside of Korea, the company announced Tuesday. Company officials said they closed a supply contract with Taiwanese third-generation mobile communications operator, Vibo.
The value of the deal was not disclosed.
Samsung Electronics will supply W-CDMA gear to Vibo, which is scheduled to launch commercial W-CDMA service at the end of this year. Samsung’s W-CDMA system for Vibo applies High Speed Downlink Packet Access technology, allowing easy migration when Vibo starts HSDPA service, the Korean vendor said.
“Our successful debut in the W-CDMA system market serves as an opportunity for us to advance into other overseas markets and achieve a balanced development of the conventional and 3G CDMA businesses,” Samsung said.
Early this year, Vibo announced plans to launch W-CDMA service in the 2.1 GHz band, and the carrier announced a W-CDMA contract with L.M. Ericsson also for network gear in April.
