SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic-Lucent Technologies Inc. said it has increased the capacity of Verizon Dominicana’s CDMA network in the Dominican Republic to support 1 million subscribers within a single mobile switching center. Lucent noted the enhancement was the first outside the United States and is part of an ongoing network expansion project that began with initial network deployments in 2003.
“By minimizing the need for additional real estate for more MSCs and other expenses associated with deploying new MSCs such as personnel to monitor the equipment, we are becoming more efficient,” said Isaac Madera, director of network planning for Verizon Dominicana.
Terms of the enhancements were not released.
