TOKYO-Japanese giant NTT DoCoMo Inc. said it reached speeds of 1 gigabit per second while traveling at 20 kilometers per hour while testing its new technology for fourth-generation wireless networks. The telecommunications council of Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications wants to commercialize 4G services by 2010.
DoCoMo said it scored the download speeds using Variable Spreading Factor-Spread Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (VSF-Spread OFDM) radio access and 4-by-4 Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output multiplexing, among other technologies.
DoCoMo was one of the first carriers in the world to launch commercial 3G services with its FOMA W-CDMA network.
