Chipmakers Skyworks Solutions Inc. and Qualcomm Inc. announced they settled their patent battle with a cross-licensing agreement. Qualcomm will have access to the Skyworks patents under litigation, and vise versa.
Further, Skyworks will license out its Selectable Mode Vocoder patent portfolio to Qualcomm. The technology includes Skyworks’ next-generation vocoders, including its 4GV offering.
“We are delighted to settle our differences and move forward with Qualcomm under mutually beneficial cross licenses,” said Mark Tremallo, Skyworks’ vice president and general counsel. “This settlement also enables the deployment of improved vocoders utilizing Skyworks’ patented technology that will bring capacity and quality improvements for carriers and consumers worldwide.”
The patent battle began in 2002. Qualcomm also recently wrapped up its patent battle with Texas Instruments Inc.
