Broadcom updates Bluetooth software

IRVINE, Calif.-Broadcom Corp. announced version 5.0 of its WIDCOMM BTW Bluetooth software.

The new version aims to simplify interactions between PCs and other devices and includes a wide array of Bluetooth profiles. New functionality includes the ability to wirelessly stream print jobs from a cellular phone through a PC to a printer, or to listen to stereo MP3 files over a desktop computer’s speakers from an MP3 player or multimedia phone.

The latest version also allows a PC to support multiple Bluetooth radios within a single device and supports Enhanced Data Rate technology. The product currently is shipping to early access partners, and commercial availability is expected in the third quarter.
