Luis M. Larralde is the new international area manager for Hutton Communications Inc. His responsibilities will include establishing new accounts and generating business in the South Florida market as well as in Central and South American and in the Caribbean. He has been involved in the wireless communications industry for seven years, specializing in international sales.
Reuven M. Carlyle is the new vice president of government affairs at Xypoint Corp. Prior to joining the company, Carlyle was manager of external affairs for AT&T Wireless Services Inc.’ messaging division, where he was responsible for all government relations related to the company’s paging operations. He is now responsible for Xypoint’s federal, state and local legislative and regulatory activities, including relations with the Federal Communications Commission.
Thorsten Heins was appointed director of Siemens Stromberg-Carlson’s wireless business unit. Most recently, Heins was department head of mobile networks product planning for Seimens AG in Munich, Germany. Since he joined the company in 1984, Heins has headed the electromagnetic compatibility for communication products, digital cellular radio-GSM base station systems, and GSM system technology & technical sales.
Qualcomm Inc. named David J. McDowell to the newly created position of vice president of sales for the company’s subscriber products group. He will be responsible for managing existing customers, as well as developing business and channel opportunities for the company’s subscriber products based on its Code Division Multiple Access technology. Prior to joining Qualcomm, McDowell held high-level positions with Hughes Network Systems Inc., NovAtel, JRC and Siemens Stromberg-Carlson.
Brite Voice Systems Inc. appointed four employees for its Asia Pacific division located in Singapore. As the new vice president of business development, Terry Leary will be responsible for Brite partnership and commercial relationships, including maintenance contracts and reseller arrangements. He will manage the day-to-day operations of the Singapore office, including pre-sale and post-sale support. Brendan Cairns was appointed senior field sales engineer with responsibility for installing and commissioning products, training customers and sales staff support in the Asia Pacific territory. Bill Devey is a project manager responsible for project management of major Asia Pacific region contracts, and Tom Gillick is the sales manager for the office.
Mark Horinko is the new director of technical services for the Cellular One Mid-Atlantic East region, which is owned and operated by Vanguard Cellular Systems Inc. Most recently, he was regional technical manager for the company, where he was instrumental in restoring cellular service to Pensacola, Fla., after Hurricane Opal. The company said Horinko was initially retained by Cellular One as the Mid-Atlantic East region’s first technician in 1984.
Comsat Corp. announced Marjorie A. Holman is the new vice president of finance for Comsat RSI, while Paul G. Pizzani is the new treasurer of Comsat Corp. Holman has served as controller of Comsat Technology Services, and group controller for Comsat RSI, formed when Comsat merged with Radiation Systems Inc. Pizzani was most recently vice president of finance and business planning for Comsat International Ventures. He has been with the company since 1985 and has held various financial positions within the company.
