HANDSET DEMAND DRIVES NOKIA SALES

HELSINKI, Finland-The Nokia Group said increased sales in the Nokia Telecommunications division, and strong growth in the Nokia Mobile Phones division, led to strong third quarter results.

Nokia Telecommunications reported a 26 percent increase in net sales for the third quarter to $691 million, compared with net sales of $550.3 million for the third quarter 1995. The Nokia Mobile Phones division logged net sales of $1.3 billion, a record 58 percent increase over the division’s 1995 third quarter net sales of $787 million.

The Nokia group had net sales of $2.2 billion, compared with 1995 third quarter net sales of $1.8 billion. The group’s net profit for the quarter grew 20 percent to $171.2 million from $142.8 million for the third quarter 1995.
