Qualcomm Personal Electronics, a division of Qualcomm Inc. and Sony Electronics Inc., reduced its temporary work force in response to a planned transition to new product lines, automated production methods and lowered seasonal demand.
About 600 temporary workers are affected by the downsizing. The workers are employed by temporary employment agencies and were hired to support high initial demand for Code Division Multiple Access phones after rapid deployment of CDMA networks worldwide, said the company. The division’s 1,200 regular employees are not affected by the cuts.
