MURRAY HILL, N.J.-Lucent Technologies Inc. introduced wireless intelligent network software applications designed to lower costs and increase revenues for network service providers, as well as provide a solution for meeting upcoming regulatory requirements, Lucent said.
The new applications for all network technologies were developed by Bell Labs, and include prepaid, wireless number portability, enhanced 911, voice-activated dialing, virtual private networks and flexible alerting. Flexible alerting allows subscribers to direct their incoming calls to ring on several lines simultaneously, and have the call completed to the first phone that answers.
Lucent plans to release the new applications throughout the year.
“Our wireless intelligent network solution offers customers the ability to run multiple applications on a single, common platform across multiple networks,” said Curtis Holmes, intelligent network vice president for Lucent’s Communications Software Group.
Lucent also unveiled a suite of intelligent networking software to provide Global System for Mobile communications network operators with value-added services, such as prepaid, virtual private networks, a personal number, usage limitation and advanced routing services.
