BUENOS AIRES, Argentina-As expected, the auction of the six regional PCS licenses (40 megahertz each) in Argentina broke records, with takings amounting to US$849 million.
If the privatization commission approves the awards, it is probable the secretary of communications will award the licenses the first week of July and also hand over the six 20 megahertz licenses to the current cellular companies for half the auction amount. This means by the end of July the government will have collected a total of US$1.27 billion dollars for 12 regional licenses that, in reality, make up four national PCS operators: Telef
