OSLO, Norway-NetCom ASA, which operates Global System for Mobile communications 1800 MHz service in Norway, reported its profits before tax were $11.5 million for the second quarter ended June 30, up from $5.1 million for the same period last year.
NetCom GSM subscribers increased by 60,173 in the quarter to 657,376, representing 37-percent growth. This compares with a net add of 20,849 for the same quarter in 1998.
The company said prepaid now represents 42 percent of its total customer base.
NetCom’s major shareholders include Comvik International (24.8 percent), Ameritech International (19.6 percent), Tele Danmark (19.6 percent) and Orkla ASA (11.0 percent).
