MOTOROLA OFFERS PAGING SOFTWARE FOR TRACKING HURRICANES

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla.-In response to the devastation caused last year by Hurricane Georges, Motorola Inc. made available its Hurricane Tracker software application.

Developed for Motorola’s PageWriter 2000 two-way pager and PageWriter 2000X two-way wireless communications center, Hurricane Tracker can provide users with updates of approaching hurricanes, tropical storms and tropical depressions.

Hurricane Tracker uses the graphic display screens of these devices to provide users with information on incoming storms via a map of the area.

The PageWriter 2000 unit and PageWriter 2000X wireless communication center users can subscribe by sending out a query via the Internet to Motorola’s database. The data-containing the current position, forecast path, wind speed, and other information-can be sent to a user’s device within moments, said Motorola.

Registration for the application and trial service is free and available for downloading on the Motorola Web site, the company said.
