PHILADELPHIA-ConneXus Corp. reported that its *CD technology, which lets listeners find out what song is playing on the radio with either a call from any phone or via the Internet, is now available to users of Palm Connected Organizers and two-way pagers.
According to ConneXus, the *CD service uses proprietary song recognition technology to allow consumers to identify and buy music being broadcast over the radio. Palm VII users just select the city, radio frequency and desired time, and they instantly are shown the song and performing artist played at that time on that radio station.
From wireless phones, listeners can access the service by dialing *CD. An interactive voice response system prompts users to enter the radio station they are listening to. The system identifies the name of the song, artist and the title of the compact disc and then plays a sample for the caller. If callers like what they hear, they can buy the CD and bill it to their credit card.
ConneXus noted that the service is currently available in Philadelphia and San Francisco, with plans to expand in the top 30 U.S. markets later this year.
