Price subscriber additions increase 21 percent

NEW YORK-Price Communications Corp. said its subsidiary, Price Communications Wireless, added 22,677 net new cellular subscribers in the first quarter, compared with 18,720 in the first quarter of 1999, representing an increase of 21 percent.

The company said it now has 476,661 subscribers and an average penetration rate of 14.3 percent.

“The record net adds were fueled, as with Vodafone and other domestic cellular subscribers, by strong growth in our prepaid business, which still represents only 11 percent of our subscribers,” said Robert Price, president and chief executive officer of Price Communications.
