ISTANBUL, Turkey-The International Telecommunication Union said its member countries have reached a treaty agreement for changes to international allocations of radio-frequency spectrum and all associated regulatory provisions.
The treaty is scheduled to be announced at the World Radiocommunications Conference 2000, May 8 to June 2 in Istanbul, Turkey.
In a release, the ITU noted that under agenda item 1.6, the additional amount of 160 megahertz of spectrum for IMT-2000 is expected to be identified worldwide. The ITU noted this would provide a solid technical foundation and strong business and investor confidence in the long-term development of the mobile communications market.
