DENVER-U S West Inc. reported first-quarter financial results ending March 31 that showed its wireless services added almost 135,000 new subscribers during the quarter and an average revenue per user of $54.
The company’s total operating revenue was up almost 10 percent compared with the first quarter of 1999, from $1.8 billion to $2 billion.
Net income increased slightly, from $394 million in 1999, to $404 million this year, with diluted earnings per share rising from 78 cents per share in the first quarter of 1999 to 79 cents per share in the first quarter of 2000.
The company’s wireless revenue was up more than 176 percent from $38 million to $105 million for the first quarter. Its subscriber base has gone from 219,000 subscribers at the end of the first quarter last year to 600,000 subscribers this year.
