NEW YORK-Portable Life, Cupertino, Calif., launched a Web site May 3 intended to provide a portal to a variety of information sources related to portable and mobile electronic devices.
The initial focus of the new site, www.portablelife.com, will be on laptop computing, said Mike Elgan, its editorial director and the former editor of Windows Magazine.
Longer term, plans are for the site to include comparable information about handheld devices, smart phones and pagers, and related services and products.
A key goal of the site is to help consumers deal with synchronization of their varied electronic devices, Elgan said. Another is to provide a variety of evaluations about various products and services.
While the depth of the content lends itself to viewing on a personal computer, abbreviated versions will be devised that are accessible from mobile devices, he added.
Portable Life was founded by Gerry Purdy, formerly vice president and chief analyst of mobile computing for Dataquest.
