MILAN, Italy-Lucent Technologies Inc. said it is committing technical and business expertise in Italy to promote collaborative projects with government, industry and academia to accelerate development and introduction of third-generation mobile Internet applications, services and products.
“In collaboration with government, businesses and universities, we will make available the vast technical resources of Bell Labs and complement it with financial and business planning expertise from a variety of sources,” explained Jim Brewington, president of Lucent’s wireless network group. “We believe that strategically seeding mobile Internet business start-ups offers the best means of maximizing their success as significant [Universal Mobile Telecommunications System] players.”
In a separate announcement, Dix.it, a consortium formed by Italian firms, selected Lucent as its technological partner in its pursuit of a 3G license in Italy.
