Nortel, China agree to cooperate on R&D

OTTAWA-Nortel Networks and the State Development Planning Commission of China signed a memorandum of understanding outlining long-term plans to cooperate on research and development in wireless communications, broadband optical transmission and Internet Protocol networks.

According to Nortel, the MOU focuses on development and deployment of a high-performance Internet in China using optical Internet, wireless Internet, Internet telephony and e-business solutions.

“This will greatly promote cooperation between China’s information industry and Nortel Networks in all aspects,” said Zhang Guabao, vice director of China’s State Development Planning Commission. “Joint projects stemming from this agreement will be launched with support from the Ministry of Information Industry, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation and the State Development Planning Commission.”
