NEW YORK-Oceanic Digital Corp. joined with Centennial Communications Corp. to develop a nationwide 800 MHz broadband Code Division Multiple Access network, following a license recently won at an auction by Oceanic Digital in Jamaica. Centennial acquired a 51-percent interest with Oceanic Digital, retaining a 49-percent interest in Oceanic Digital’s Jamaica subsidiary, Paradise Wireless (Jamaica) Ltd.
“Centennial’s Caribbean operations in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Dominican Republic makes them an excellent partner to provide a wireless broadband platform utilizing the latest available CDMA technology in Jamaica,” said Robert Segal, chief executive officer of Oceanic Digital. “We congratulate the government of Jamaica for its bold measures to allow us to provide Jamaicans with access to the information highway via broadband wireless.”
