MIAMI-Tiaxa launched its panregional wireless Internet portal in Latin America, offering wireless phone users personalized, location-sensitive mobile Internet services.
The company noted it can capitalize on the region’s adoption and convergence of wireless and Web-based technology by creating a platform that provides consumers a single point of entry to the Internet.
“The phenomenal growth of the Internet and wireless industries in Latin America paints a clear picture of a population hungry for empowerment,” noted Luis Samra, chief executive officer of Tiaxa. “By making Web-based services available through inexpensive wireless devices, Tiaxa takes advantage of existing technology to deliver an online world previously inaccessible to a region in which the Internet, though growing rapidly, still reaches less than 3 percent of the population.”
Tiaxa will use the $2 million from its angel round of funding to upgrade its technological infrastructure, expand its regional reach and enhance its location-sensitive and personalized services.
The company also said it is partnering with the region’s top Internet content and service providers to offer a full suite of Web-based features including e-mail, group messaging and content channels to mobile commerce.
