HELSINKI, Finland-Nokia Corp. signed a contract to provide a Global System for Mobile communications network to Nuevatel PCS de Bolivia S.A.
The contract, valued at about $25 million, covers the supply of a full GSM 1900 network including switching, base station systems and radio transmission equipment.
According to Nokia, deliveries are expected to begin immediately with operations scheduled to begin during the second quarter.
Nokia also reported the 3rd Generation Partnership Project, the standardization forum for third-generation mobile systems, accepted its proposal to adopt IPv6 as the protocol for future Internet Protocol multimedia services.
Nokia noted that IPv6 provides increased Internet address space, making it possible to allocate an Internet address to almost every electronic device, as well as increased security and quality of service to the Internet.
