IPmobile
Wireless communications infrastructure company IPmobile Inc. hired Louis Wooldridge as its vice president of sales in Asia, and Chuck Derrick as its vice president of product development. Wooldridge will spearhead the company’s initiative to secure and capitalize on the growing wireless data market opportunity in Asia in his new position. Prior to joining IPmobile, Wooldridge spent 15 years in Asia developing DSC and Alcatel’s switching business. Derrick will lead the development of IPmobile’s Airscape wireless IP platform and manage the research and development team. Derrick served as vice president of product development for Nortel Networks’ Broadband Wireless Access division before joining IPmobile.
Decibel Products
Robert Sowards is Decibel Products’ new senior vice president of operations and will be directly responsible for managing six departments and global competitiveness as well as guiding the growth of the company. Previously, Sowards served as executive vice president of operations for a division of Trinity Industries Inc.
IPeria
IPeria Inc., an IP-based enhanced service platforms and applications provider, appointed three new members to its executive management team. Daniel Poranski is the company’s vice president of marketing, Joseph Radomsky is vice president of sales and Robert Mickolsz is vice president of operations. Poranski will be responsible for strategic planning, product marketing, corporate marketing and business development. Prior to joining IPeria, Poranski was vice president of Voicetek Corp., a manufacturer of software-based platforms and enhanced services applications for telecommunications service providers and call centers. Radomsky will oversee all sales activity for IPeria in his new position. Radomsky was vice president of global resellers at InterVoice-Brite Inc., a global supplier of call automation and enhanced network solutions, prior to joining IPeria. Mickolsz will be in charge of all operations, including customer service, professional services and production operations. Before joining IPeria, Mickolsz was vice president of global operations for PictureTel Corp., a videoconferencing applications provider.
IDC
Steven Hooper was appointed to Integrated Data Communications Inc.’s board of directors. A co-founder of Ignition Corp., a wireless Internet venture firm, Hooper was involved in IDC’s round C financing, which closed with $17.5 million. Hooper has served as vice chairman of Nextlink Communications, where he was responsible for developing strategic business opportunities.
Brience
Brience Inc., which provides solutions enabling device-specific content to be delivered to any wireless or broadband device, announced that Anthony Dolanski has joined the company as chief financial officer. Dolanski will lead overall financial operations. Dolanski served as executive vice president of finance and technology at Sallie Mae, a provider of education credit and related services to schools and students, prior to joining Brience.
InterDigital Communications
Mark Gercenstein was elected chief executive officer and appointed a member of the board of directors by InterDigital Communications Corp. Prior to joining InterDigital, Gercenstein was with Motorola Inc., where he was responsible for developing and implementing the business model for the Fixed Wireless System Group, focusing on product, marketing planning and licensing strategy for the worldwide wireless broadband access technology market.
GSM Association
Scott Fox, representing BellSouth Mobility DCS, was elected deputy chairman of the Global System for Mobile communications Association during its Plenary Meeting in Chile. Fox currently serves as a senior adviser and consultant to BellSouth, as well as president of network management and operations for Wireless Facilities Inc., a provider of outsourcing services for the design, deployment and management of wireless telecommunications systems.
Lucent Technologies
Betsy Atkins was elected to the board of directors of Lucent Technologies Inc. Atkins is an independent venture capitalist, focusing on investments in early stage, high-tech companies as well as a member of the board of directors of Olympic Steel, Paradyne Networks Inc., Polycom Inc. and Selectica Inc.
GiantBear.com
GiantBear.com, a wireless Internet application service provider, appointed Kurt Abkemeier its chief financial officer, Deepak Mahbubani to senior vice president of strategic alliances and Teresa Baum to vice president of product development. Abkemeier will oversee the company’s corporate business strategy and further establish GiantBear.com’s position in the wireless Internet ASP market. Prior to joining the company, he was senior vice president at MAP Mobile Communications, focusing on expanding the SmartBeep wireless messaging business and new business opportunities. Mahbubani will be responsible for strategic alliances, account management, client services and customer care in his new position. Mahbubani spent five years at IBM Corp., most recently as a principal in the company’s pervasive computing group, before joining GiantBear.com. Baum will cover the company’s product development, management and strategy in her new position. Baum previously was vice president of wireless applications for Citigroup of New York, where she developed business plans and executed product launches for wireless applications.
Shared Technologies Cellular
David Bogue is Shared Technologies Cellular Inc.’s new president and chief operating officer. In this position, Bogue will oversee STC’s marketing and communications, carrier relations, information technologies and debit operations and will be directly involved in the company’s expanding program with Nextel Communications Inc. Prior to joining STC, Bogue was vice president of AT&T Corp.’s consumer markets division, where he was responsible for developing new retail business throughout the United States, as well as establishing and implementing the company’s retail strategy, policies and procedures.
Tellabs
Tellabs’ stockholders named Richard Notebaert to the company’s board of directors at its annual meeting. Notebaert, retired chairman and chief executive officer of Ameritech Corp., will replace Dr. John Foulkes, who retired from the board.
HC Electronics
Girish Gandhi was appointed senior vice president of business development and sales at HC Electronics, a subsidiary of Hung Chang of Korea. Gandhi will manage all marketing and sales activities, including advertising, public relations, direct marketing of all linear power amplifiers and repeater systems for Code Division Multiple Access, Time Division Multiple Access, Global System for Mobile communications and Advanced Mobile Phone Service technologies. Prior to joining HC Electronics, Gandhi was director of sales for GSM wireless systems at Siemens.
nCipher
nCipher Inc., a developer of hardware security products for e-commerce and public key infrastructure applications, appointed Edward Wood to implement the company’s strategy for the mobile and wireless commerce market. Wood spent the previous 10 years in the professional mobile radio business with Simoco International, where he was product manager for the company’s digital terminal portfolio.
