MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.-VeriSign Inc. inked a deal to produce mobile games based on Sony Pictures films and TV shows, the companies announced Friday.
Ojom, VeriSign’s game-publishing unit, secured wireless gaming rights to movies including “Men in Black,” “Jerry Maguire” and “Charlie’s Angels,” and the TV series “Starsky and Hutch.” Ojom and Sony Pictures Digital will jointly manage distribution for the titles, which are expected to be released to European and U.S. users in the second half of this year.
“It’s clear that mobile phones are being used for more than making calls,” said Mahi de Silva, senior vice president of VeriSign Wireless Services. “The combination of Ojom’s strength in creating innovative mobile content and Sony’s extensive catalog of popular entertainment titles gives us the ability to deliver creative mobile games that will be engaging and entertaining.”
