Comverse Technology Inc. made an undisclosed investment in Speedwise Technologies Ltd., a privately held firm specializing in software designed to accelerate the time required to browse and download Web content over cellular connections. Comverse said the investment is part of the company’s ongoing program of strategic investments in emerging companies focused primarily on multimedia communications processing software and systems. In addition to the investment, Comverse also agreed to cooperate with Speedwise in promoting its Internet accelerator to wireless carriers.
Certicom Corp.’s board of directors approved a two-for-one stock split of its outstanding common shares, increasing the company’s total common shares from 12.8 million to 25.6 million. Pursuant to the stock split, each stockholder of record at the close of business on July 5 will be entitled to receive one additional share of common stock for each common share held. Shares resulting from the split are scheduled to be distributed by the corporation’s transfer agent on or before July 12.
AnywhereYouGo.com, an independent resource for wireless application development, received $4 million in first-round financing led by Brience, a provider of next-generation wireless and broadband solutions. The company said it will use the funds to develop new online resources for its community of wireless developers, expand its Wireless Internet Lab and promote international growth by opening offices in Stockholm, Sweden, and Tokyo by the end of the year.
OmniSky Corp., a joint venture between Aether Systems Inc. and 3Com Corp., filed a registration statement for a proposed initial public offering. The underwriting group for the offering is Credit Suisse First Boston Corp., and co-managed by Chase Securities Inc. and others. No prospectus is available at this time.
Wireless Internet commerce and services provider ePhones announced partnerships with more than 100 wireless retailers and Internet partners nationwide, expanding its Internet-based network to include more than 375 retail stores and more than 300 outside sales representatives. The company said its network gives partners access to ePhones’ Wireless Platform Engine, proprietary rate plan database and site infrastructure.
