Following a U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California’s summary judgement that Research In Motion Ltd.’s products do not infringe on a Glenayre’s Technologies Inc.’s patent, Glenayre said it will request the court grant permission for the company to file a motion for reconsideration. “We are confident of our position in this matter and hope the U.S. District Court will look favorably upon our request for reconsideration,” said Eric Doggett, president and chief executive officer of Glenayre. The original lawsuit alleged RIM products infringed a Glenayre patent covering power supplies in which dual batteries are used to provide different voltages for mobile devices.
Amdocs Ltd. announced it expects to report revenue results of approximately $404 million and earnings of about 33 cents per diluted share for its third fiscal quarter, ended June 30.
Alamosa (Delaware) Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Alamosa Holdings Inc., extended the expiration date for its exchange offer for up to $250 million of its 12.5-percent senior notes due 2011 from July 10 until July 24. Alamosa said as of July 9, it had received tenders from holders of $183.8 million in aggregate principal amount of the notes.
Astron Antenna Co. has acquired Chapel Hill, N.C.-based Northpoint Communication Products, maker of LoPro brand low-profile antennas. Northpoint’s offices will be moved to Sterling, Va., and production of LoPro antennas will begin immediately. The companies said their customers will benefit from new ranges of products and cross-marketing opportunities.
Wireless operator US Unwired Inc. will be included on the Russell 2000 Index, which measures the performance of the 2,000 largest U.S. companies based on total market capitalization.
Alcatel said it will speed up its cost management initiatives in the United States and it involves a staff reduction of 2,500 and more facility consolidation. “Employees affected by the reduction will receive a severance package and outplacement services,” said the company.
