BEDMINSTER, New Jersey, United States—While cdma2000 1x handsets are not expected to be available until the fourth quarter, Verizon Wireless upgraded its network in parts of New York and northern New Jersey to support the next-generation technology. The carrier said the upgrade will support growing use demands in its existing spectrum by increasing the digital capacity and enhancing the reliability of its networks.
Verizon plans to upgrade to 1x in additional markets later this year, with anticipated fourth-quarter rollout of 1x high-speed mobile data access.
