Motorola hopes for Olympic windfall in China

BEIJING—Motorola is expected to supply China with Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) and iDEN digital dispatch systems in preparation for the organization of the 2008 Olympic Games.

Besides in the capital city of Beijing, competitions will also be held in Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenyang and Qingdao, which would also require communication systems.

Earlier this year, Motorola announced a “10-10-10 strategy” in China—US$10 billion in annual production value, US$10 billion in local sourcing and US$10 billion in cumulative investment in the period from 1992 to 2006.
