Survey finds 40% of telecom users have not downloaded content

DENVER-About 80 percent of telecom consumers purchase three or four different services, including landline, cable, wireless and Internet services, but less than one-third purchase those services from a single provider, according to a survey commissioned by billing and customer-care company CSG Systems.

More than 67 percent of the respondents indicated that if a provider offered a discount on bundled services they would be more likely to purchase multiple services from a single provider. Survey respondents also indicated service bundles tailored to the customer’s personal interests would improve their overall customer experiences.

The survey also queried users about how often they download content. Nearly 40 percent said they have never downloaded content, with the majority indicating they are intimidated by the process or didn’t know content was available to them. About 65 percent of respondents indicated they would not be willing to pay more for content specifically tailored to their interests.

About one-fifth of survey respondents said they have accessed content via their mobile phones vs. 41 percent who access content such as video-on-demand via cable TV and another 41 percent who access content via the Internet. The majority said they purchase content once or twice a month.

The survey also found more than half of respondents indicate they use online bill paying to pay their telecom bills.
