ATLANTA, United States—Cingular Wireless introduced Interactive Messaging, giving Cingular subscribers the ability to send text messages to wireless users on other carriers’ networks.
The service will be available in March.
“Cingular believes intercarrier messaging, which breaks down communication barriers between wireless carriers, is essential to achieving mass adoption and increasing text messaging in the U.S.,” said Stephen Korn, vice president of business marketing and product development for Cingular.
The Interactive Messaging services include mobile-to-mobile, e-mail and Web messaging, which allows anyone to send a text message to a Cingular subscriber directly from Cingular’s Web site. Information alerts also are included.
Customers have the choice of paying US$0.10 per message or purchasing bucket plans where messages can cost as little as US$0.02 each.
