TOKYO—NTT DoCoMo said it plans to introduce a “dual network” system, which will enable users who own both a FOMA third-generation handset and conventional PDC DoCoMo mobile phone to use the same phone number for both handsets.
Between 1 April and 31 August, DoCoMo customers using two FOMA handsets or a FOMA and a PDC or PHS phone, will receive up to a 55-percent discount on their monthly basic fee for each phone. In addition, the FOMA application fee will be waived during the same period.
DoCoMo also announced it has released open i-area service guidelines on its Web site, allowing any information service provider to supply content to i-area users. The i-area service, which is a feature of the carrier’s i-mode offering, delivers weather, dining, traffic and other types of information accessed from 482 separate areas throughout Japan.
