Verizon expands Nickelodeon content offerings

BEDMINSTER, N.J.-Verizon Wireless added more children’s content to its Vcast lineup Thursday, launching music videos from Nickelodeon franchises Dora the Explorer, Blue’s Clues, The Backyardigans and LazyTown.

The carrier will rotate eight one- to three-minute videos from Nick Jr. and announced plans to add three new videos each week. The new service, called Nick Mobile, marks the latest move by Verizon to target children through its Vcast service, which already offers video content from “Sesame Street” and a game based on Disney’s “The Incredibles.”

Nickelodeon will provide mobile television content for the new channel this summer. Verizon subscribers on the carrier’s EV-DO network can access a basic Vcast package for $15 a month.

“Nickelodeon is everywhere kids are, which includes cell phones,” said Mike Skagerlind, senior vice president and general manager of Nickelodeon Online. “(Nick Mobile) gives parents another way to engage and play with their kids when they are on the go.”
