MONTREAL-Wavesat Inc. and Atmel Corp. said they plan to build on their existing WiMAX manufacturing partnership to develop compatible baseband and radio-frequency chips for the 802.16 market.
The agreement includes Wavesat’s Evolutive DM256 WiMAX baseband application specific integrated circuit and Atmel’s WiMAX-compliant radio, which will have variants covering the 2.5 GHz and 3.5 GHz licensed bands.
The companies said the products could be available by the fourth quarter of this year.
