BEIJING—China’s dominant mobile-phone carrier, China Mobile, signed an agreement with U.S. wholesale telecom carrier ITXC to exchange international phone traffic over ITXC.net, ITXC’s global Internet-based telecommunications network.
ITXC.net has points of presence in 152 countries.
The agreement is expected improve the quality of China Mobile’s international phone calls.
ITXC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tom Evslin said China Mobile could address concerns about how to increase average revenue per user (ARPU) and continued growth in its subscriber base “with the high quality, savings and revenue it receives from ITXC.”
ITXC’s presence in China goes back to its relationship with China Telecom in May 1999.
