JOHANNESBURG, South Africa—In the wake of recent tariff cuts by the competing GSM mobile operators, analog fixed wireless operator Intercellular announced that it will cut rates due to the development of a broader subscriber base.
The operator reported that it will now charge US$470, including terminal, for its National Rate Plan package with a monthly connection charge of US$8.40. For the Budget Rate Plan package, Intercellular will now charge US$294, down from US$470, including the terminal, and a monthly connection fee of US$12.
The mobile package will have an initial charge of US$210, including a handset with a monthly access fee of US$16.
Intercellular charges US$0.03 per minute over the fixed wireless network and US$0.12 over mobile connections.
Alhaji El Rufia, president of Intercellular, said competition had become stiff and that the company would expand the capacity of its network before the end of the year to cater to the increased subscriber base.
