OWINGS MILLS, Md.—Echoing the guarded optimism expressed by several other wireless data companies, Aether Systems Inc. reported sluggish first-quarter sales but hope for the coming months.
“The positive trends beginning to develop are reason for optimism, albeit cautious amid an economic environment that remains slow to recover,” said Dave Oros, the company’s chairman and chief executive officer.
The company’s revenues for the quarter were $25 million, down from the $31 million the company scored during the same quarter last year. Excluding charges, the company’s loss for the first quarter was $34 million, down from the $47 million in the same quarter last year.
In the coming quarters, Aether said it expects revenues to grow slightly along with improvements in operating expenses.
