Electronics retailer Hawk Electronics said it will deliver streaming entertainment services from software developer Orb Networks Inc. to Cingular Wireless users through Hawk’s storefronts.
Hawk, a licensed Cingular dealer operating primarily in Texas, launched a free service enabling the carrier’s mobile data customers to access PC-based home digital content, including live TV, music, videos, photos and Web information via Internet-enabled handsets. Subscribers with media-enabled home computers can use the service to access cable broadcasts, according to an Orb spokeswoman.
The service is available on EDGE/GPRS networks.
In addition to its retail operation, Hawk offers mobile customers in-house billing and customer care services through its call center. Orb develops streaming entertainment software enabling users to access home digital content.
“The relationship with Hawk Electronics is our first with a wireless provider, and we’re pleased to be working with one of the most experienced and highly regarded companies in the market,” said Jim Behrens, Orb’s chief executive officer. “To have a leading provider in the wireless industry understand and deliver the flexibility and added value Orb provides is a great win for us and our mutual customers.”
