Merrill Lynch uses Motient service

RESTON, Va.-Financial giant Merrill Lynch will use wireless data devices running over Motient Corp.’s wireless network to give its U.S. Private Client Group access to up-to-date financial information.

The group will use the BlackBerry by Motient software and Research In Motion Ltd.’s 857 wireless devices.

“Reliable mobile data connectivity is growing in importance within highly competitive vertical industries, such as financial services, that put the highest value on fresh, accurate data,” said Kevin Burden, program manager for smart handheld devices at research firm IDC.
