BUENOS AIRES, Argentina-In spite of the economic crisis that has ravaged the region, BellSouth’s net profits in Latin America reached US$18 million in the first six months of this year compared with a US$70 million loss in the same period last year. While total profits for BellSouth have fallen by 91 percent, Latin America managed to reverse the negative results of last year.
The strategy that was applied to obtain these results in the region was lowering operating costs and restricting increases in the number of prepaid users.
BellSouth Latin America’s income fell by 18 percent in the first six months of the year, according to its billing, declining from US$1.53 billion last year to US$1.26 billion. This ranked the region’s income as one of the lowest percentage incomes at 11 percent for BellSouth, decreasing from 12.74 percent last year.
