Sony debuts Java service for mMode

NEW YORK-The Sony Music Mobile Products Group reported the debut of Java-based Sony Music Mobile on AT&T Wireless Services Inc.’s mMode service offering.

Sony said the service will provide customers with access to ring tones, graphics and breaking news about Sony Music Entertainment artists from their wireless phones. Customers will also be able to purchase ring tomes, display graphics and make CD purchases through links to Amazon.com’s one-click service from their handset.

Ring tones are expected to cost between $1 and $2 each and for an additional $1 per month fee customers can download a Java application designed to provide news, tour dates, album releases, information on personal appearances and pictures of a variety of artists.
