Consolidation on the wireless content front continued its unrelenting pace, with gaming company Iomo purchasing rival Covert Operations Ltd. for an undisclosed sum of cash and stock.
“The mobile entertainment industry is growing at a tremendous rate, and a lot of consolidation has occurred over the last few years,” said John Chasey, Iomo’s managing director. “The acquisition of Covert Operations is a natural move that will allow us to expand our capacity and acquire both assets and extremely experienced staff simultaneously.”
Iomo primarily builds games for mobile phones using Java application download technology. Covert Operations made games for Nintendo’s popular Game Boy handheld gaming device, as well as Java games.
Other recent content company consolidations include Jamdat Mobile Inc.’s purchase of Hexacto Games Inc., Mforma’s buy of nGame and the combination of Aspiro and Mobilehits.
