MILPITAS, Calif.-Globalstar L.L.C. said it filed an application with the Federal Communications Commission seeking authority to operate a gateway in Sebring, Fla.
The gateway would improve service on the fringes of the company’s North American service area, particularly at sea, said Globalstar. The company expects to open the gateway this summer.
Globalstar currently has four gateways covering the United States, Canada and the Caribbean located in Texas, Puerto Rico, eastern Canada and eastern Canada. Each gateway provides communications channels within a radius of about 1,500 miles, said the company.
