Regional wireless carrier Dobson Communications Corp. today announced it will jump into the picture messaging business later this year through a new deal with messaging infrastructure provider LogicaCMG.
Dobson will use LogicaCMG’s Multimedia Messaging Service Center and Wireless Service Broker to offer multimedia messaging services and wireless Internet access over its GSM/GPRS network. The carrier said it expects to launch the services in select markets in the fourth quarter, with full coverage next year.
“Delivering MMS services was the next step in our continued commitment to offer our subscribers innovative mobile services,” said Tim Duffy, Dobson’s senior vice president and chief technical officer. “LogicaCMG was a natural choice because of its experience in building advanced wireless data solutions and expertise in mobile messaging.”
